This Halloween, on Saturday 30th October, Say’s James, Jo and Sue will abseil down the walls of the famous Twickenham Rugby Stadium in a bid to raise money for people affected by stroke. Dressed in their favourite gruesome costumes, the trio will be joining over 1,000 other fearless fundraisers at the Stroke Association event.
The ‘spooktacular’ Twickenham at Twilight Halloween Abseil is the follow up to the Sporting Heroes Abseil in March of 2009. Sporting Heroes was an amazing success with over 700 people taking part, helping to raise over £130,000. This year the charity hopes to raise even more.
For their frightening feat, James, Jo and Sue will be adopting their true ‘vampire names’.
“I can’t wait to leap off that building,” said James ‘Hermes of The Highway Thieves’ Mogridge, who plans to dress as a Chewbacca. “I’m ready for anything – I just hope the ropes will hold,” he added. “Our healthcare practice does quite a lot of awareness raising work in acute stroke to get more patients treated sooner, but this is my personal contribution.”
Every year 120,000 people in the UK suffer their first stroke. With stroke as the UK’s third biggest killer, the Stroke Association are working towards a world where there are fewer strokes, and those affected get the help and support they need.
Jo ‘Iseult of The Highway Thieves’ Gwaspari, who will be dressed as a blood sucking vampire, commented: “Stroke is the biggest cause of disability in the UK. By taking part at Twickenham at Twilight, we want to help support the great work that the Stroke Association do.”
